A Message from Principal Linda Smith
Welcome to Lanier Middle School, home of the Purple Pups. Lanier has been named a Texas Business and Education Coalition Honor Roll School from 2006 - 2011. This year, Lanier was one of 24 HISD schools to receive this award. TBEC Honors Schools have demonstrated three years of consistent high performance in all subjects on the TAKS test compared with other schools serving similar student populations. For the last three years, Lanier was named a Just for Kids High Performing School by the National Center for Educational Achievement. Lanier has been an Anti-Defamation League No Place for Hate school since 2006. The organization, Children At Risk, in partnership with the Houston Chronicle, researched and ranked 253 middle schools in the Houston metropolitan area on the degree to which a campus has prepared students for secondary and post-secondary success. Lanier ranked in the top 10 for the last three years. Lanier is the only middle school in HISD that offers an authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP).  The rigorous IBMYP program aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who create a more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.  Lanier has been a TEA recognized school since 2004. We invite you to come and visit our school.

Lanier Living Library
On Friday, April 5, the students at Lanier Middle School, took part in a project called The Lanier Living Library, which teaches about the many issues – political, economic, cultural, etc. - related to culture, migration and/or immigration and legacies.  In other words, they learn about culture, migration/immigration and the idea of living legacies by researching related issues and interviewing a volunteer subject - someone who may have migrated and/or traveled widely and/or moved from one part of the world to the other. The interviews lasted 45 minutes and took place in students' GSG classes. Click the link to see a slide show of our guest speakers. Slideshow
